As a Coaching Corps Americorps*VISTA volunteer, Emily Barnes worked to establish one of Coaching Corps first college campus chapters, recruiting students to coach and acting as a liaison to the campus. Watching students become coaches was the best part of the job. “Seeing the Coaching Corps volunteers in action is always so inspiring because it’s so clear they love the work they’re doing and having fun with the kids,” she says.
Coaching Corps chapters are innovative student-driven organizations established at college and university campuses across the state. Coaching Corps chapter members volunteer to become Coaching Corps coaches. In addition, chapter members hold equipment drives for local after-school sports programs, host fundraisers and special events that build awareness of Coaching Corps on campus and help the local community. Involved students get the chance to lead events, build their resumes and make a positive impact on the lives of kids in their own neighborhoods.
